Algae are mini plants that make their own omega-3 fatty acids in water. In nature, algae pass this on to 'oily' fish such as herring and sardine, when they are eaten. This gives algae oil the power of fish oil. Because these algae oil capsules are made from cultivated algae in a controlled environment, they do not contain any contaminants from the ocean. The capsule shell is also vegetable because the gelatin has been replaced by seaweed, among other things.
